Femi Ogunode leads the men's sprint 100m (10.07) and 200m (20.30)
Naturalised Qatari from Nigeria Femi Seun Ogunode is the winner of double gold medal (200m & 400m) at Asian Games. His 200m time of 20.30 recorded in Diamond League at Doha in May remain the fastest time in Asia this year. On early July, the 5ft 6' sprinter recorded poor times at 100m (10.47) and 200m (20.91) in Kuala Lumpur. However he emerged as the Asian champion after winning the men's 200m a week later at the Asian championships in Kobe, clocking 20.41s (= meet record). And two weeks later he competed at the world military games and set a personal best as well as Asia lead at 100m (10.07), only short 0.08 to Asian record (9.99) held by teammate Samuel Francis.
Chisato Fukushima leads the women's 100m sprint (11.24) and 200m (23.12)
Asian games double gold medalist (100m, 200m) Chisato Fukushima is the leader for three events so far this year (100m, 200m, 4x100m). She won two gold medals at each of the last two Asian championships (2009, 2011) as well as the Asian Games in 2010. Interestingly the gold medals came from different events-Asian championships 2009 (100m 11.27, 4x100m 43.93), Asian Games (100m 11.33, 200m 23.62), Asian Championships 2011 (200m 23.49, 4x100m 44.05).
Note: there's correction of the files at Asian Athletics website, therefore the latest version of Asian Athletics Season Leader 2011 is only available from this website, as long as the others haven't updated.

Following are the videos and results (sprint events) at the first day of athletics events on December 18, 2010.

Malaysia athletics team have ended the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou without any medal. Following an analysis of Malaysia Athletics' performances in the Asiad.
Lee Hup Wei (Men's High Jump, PB 2.27m)
Lee Hup Wei (PB 2.27, Asiad 2.15)
Hup Wei set a 2.27m (NR) in 2008 which enabled him to compete at the Beijing Olympics. He repeated the NR mark twice this year and won a hattrick at the 2010 Asian Athletics Grand Prix in India. He was the hope of bringing home the gold medal from the 2010 Asiad. However, he could only manage to place 5th with an upset mark of 2.15m.
"A great dissapointment, Hup Wei should have completed the last 2 jumps at 2.19m and not go for 2.23m, three athletes shared the bronze at 2.19m, he leapt 2.27m twice this year", said Roger Loong, a long-time athletics observer and statistician.
Despite failing to retain the bronze medal she won in Doha 2006, she improved her season best of 58.23s twice in Guangzhou. At the semifinals, she clocked a SB time of 58.16s to place third, then once again lowered the SB to 57.22s at the final where she placed fifth.
Roslinda Samsu (Women's Pole Vault, PB 4.40m)
Based on her PB of 4.40m, she could have won a medal. She became the Asian Champion in 2007, and leapt a 4.15m this year. However a 4.00 metres effort in Guangzhou hinders her to be one of the podium winners, thus failed to match her silver medal feat in Doha 2006.
Despite of the failure, i believe she will defends her SEA Games gold medal easily at Jakarta in June 2011.
Nurul Sarah A. Kadir (Women's 100m, PB 11.83s)
She won triple gold medals (100m, 200m & 4x100m) at Malaysian Games this year. After setting a PB of 11.83s during the 2009 SEA Games, she has been consistent to run sub-12s this year.
In Guangzhou, she did 11.99s in the first round and advanced in the semifinals where she clocked a season best mark of 11.91s.
Zubaidah Adabi (Women's 100m, PB 11.81s)
A former long jumper, but switched to 100m sprint this year at age of 24. But long jump and sprinting are related. Carl Lewis, a former WR holder in the 100m has won the long jump 4 times at the Olympics. Dwight Phillips reduced his 100m time to jump further.
It does to Zubaidah. She was the best long jumper in the country for at least four years and she timed 11.81s this year, which is the fastest time by any Malaysian since 2008. She was selected for the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi but withdrew due to an ankle injury. In Guangzhou, she did 12.01s in the first rounds, then 11.93s in the semifinals.
This quartet has broken the 21-year-old national record (45.37s) with a time of 45.33s in Zgorzelec, Poland this year. All of members have running below 12s in many times for the past 2 years.
First leg, Yi Yee Ling clocked a PB time of 11.95s during the Asian Athletics GP in India. Norjannah, the back stretch runner who has a PB of 11.82s registered a 11.99s this year. Second curve runner, Nurul Zarah ran her SB in Guangzhou in 11.91s (PB 11.83s), while Zubaidah who anchored the quartet has the fastest time in Malaysia this year in 11.81s.
In Guangzhou, they only managed to finish in sixth position in the final with a time of 45.54s.

The 5th SEA Athletics Junior Championship concluded last week at Bangkok, Thailand. A total of 9 countries were taking part at the 2 days meet that was held at November 03-04, 2010.
This year games saw a team outside the Southeast Asia, Hong Kong was invited to take part. It's perhaps to give the opportunity for the SEA athletes to feel a different ambiance of competition.
Sprinter Jirapong Meenapra of Thailand ruled the sprints events with a triple gold medals performances. Jirapong, who one of the finalists in the 100m at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Singapore this year has timed 10.45s (0.0) in the sprint century, 21.25s (+1.1) in the half-lap sprint, and a 40.53s performance in the one-lap relays.
It was also an improvement on his 100m PR of 10.51 (+2.0) he set in Phetchaburi, Thailand in January 2010. With the achievement, Jirapong is now moved to the 4th fastest in the World youth lists.
Malaysia team bagged three gold medals home. The gold medals were contributed by high jumpers Kavee Alagan and Shandyiani Mahendran who leaped 2.08m and 1.72m respectively. The third medal was added from the boy’s 2000m steeplechase by Ahmad Luth Hamizan. He managed to clock a time of 6:05.86s.
The championships was initially to be held in Kuala Lumpur in June but then it was rescheduled. The reason why, we all not sure, perhaps the financial restriction? also not sure, but in the month of June the Malaysian Games was held, hence the managements, officials, athletes etc. were focused on it.
However the championship was not only rescheduled but eventually moved to Bangkok, why? maybe "they" don't care about SEA Athletics Junior Championship. But the consequences of this amendment has affected majority of athletes (of course!) especially the Philippines athletes as stated by a friend on the Pinoymiler's site.

The 2010 edition of Thailand open track and field championship was held at Thammasat University stadium in Rangsit, Thailand.
As usual, strong foreign teams including Malaysia, South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei, Macau, Myanmmar and Sri Lanka took part at the four days championship.
The men's 100m saw a close battle on the line but Malaysia's Imran A. Hadi was declared the winner with a time of 10.54s, just ahead of Hong Kong's Lai Chun Ho in second at 10.55s while Thais sprinter Watchara Sondee third in 10.56s.
The 72nd Singapore open track and field championship was held from 18-19 September 2010 at Gombak Stadium, Singapore. Following are the full results and videos from sprint events:
The 2010 Indonesia National Athletics Championship was held on August 04-07 at Jakarta. The annual national event was organized by Persatuan Atletik Seluruh Indonesia (Indonesia Athletics Federation). Only local athletes took part in the meet.
Indonesian top sprinter, Suryo Agung Wibowo whose 100m PB is 10.17s took part but his performance was not 'classified' in the official results due to technical problem unrelated to the race. Some other top athletes competed, but their results also were not 'classified'. Earlier before the meet it was reported that several teams were unhappy with decisions by their own athletes to compete under different teams, in which have led many protests during the meet.
SEA Games champion, Dedeh Erawati was in action and won two individual golds from the 100mh and 200m with 13.45s and 24.48s, respectively.
Meanwhile, experienced runner Esther Sumah has becomes the oldest to win the Indonesian national title. She won the 800m in a time of 2:17.74s at age of 44!

The 14th Asian Junior Athletics Championships was held from July 1-4, 2010 at My Dinh Stadium, Hanoi, Vietnam. Only athletes born in the year 1991 and 1992 allowed to compete. More than 650 officials and competitors from 37 countries and territories weremtaking part in the tournament.
Malaysia sent small team due to a regular reason, small budget and also restriction from the Ministry. Out of 26 athletes listed only five went to Hanoi and some of them were on their own expenses!
National Sports Council of Malaysia (MSN) cut the budget for almost 70% while the Ministry of Education doesn't approved the student to leave as reported by a trusted source.
The team could have won medals if all athletes went. Five young sprinters have ran below 10.80 this year and they could teamed-up in the men's 4x100 for at least 40.3-40.5. Thailand won the men's 4x100m final in 39.82 followed by Hong Kong and Japan with 40.51 and 40.64 respectively. Thailand sent 35 athletes and they won 4 Gold while Singapore 19 athletes and back home with medal.
