Asian All Stars Athletics Meet 2010

The 3rd Asian All Stars Athletics meet held on July 29-30, 2010 in New Delhi, India. As much as 250 athletes from 17 countries were taking part. The Asian All Stars Athletics was set to provide a competitive rivalry among the best athletes (junior and senior) from the whole Asian continental. Top Asian athlete Ehsan Hadidi who holds the continental record in discus throw (69.32m) was among the list of participants. A total prize money of USD 70,000 were distributed to the top three winners from the entire 25 events.

Malaysia hurdler Mohd Ajmal Hassan delivered the only medal for the country when he suprisingly wins bronze in 110mh in 14.61. Malaysian Games champion P.Yuvaaraj hovewer could only finished 7th in the 400m with a time of 48.04, some way off his season best of 47.31. Middle distance runners, Mohd Jironi and Gantimathi failed to win in their respective events.

Christophe Lemaitre First White Man to Break 10s, Now the European Champion

Christophe Lemaitre wins the men's 100m final at the European Athletics Championship, held in Barcelona on July 28, 2010 with a time of 10.11 (-1.1).

The 20-year-old Frenchman who became the first white man to break 10s barrier three weeks ago with an effort of 9.98, had defeated four other sprinters who were all given 10.18.

From the tight finish, silver was given to Briton Mark Lewis-Francis and Bronze went to Lemaitre's teammate Martial Mbandjock. Olympic silver medalist, Francis Obikwelu and the World Indoor Champion Dwain Chambers were on the fourth and fifth respectively.

The long-legged 1.89m-tall became known when he rewritten the European junior record 10.06 set by Chambers to a new 10.04 last year. He also wins the World Junior Athletics Championship in the 200m (20.83) in 2008.

ASEAN School Games 2010: Amir Fakhri 21.85 Third-Gold, Jackie Wong Incredible 68.84 Discus Throw

Amir Fakhri Ismail (PBs 21.64/47.90) won his third gold in the 200m and has recorded a new meet record in 21.85. Silver medal went to teammate Hisyam Alias in 22.18 while Thailand’s Kittisak Phiraksa bagged bronze in 22.27.

Thailand however dominated the girl's section. Supawan Thipat wins the 200m with a time of 24.88. She eclipsed her meet record 25.08 that set earlier during SF in the morning. Thipat's teammate Pimpika Kannikom went to win silver in 25.30 while Malaysia's Zaidatul Husna satisfied on the bronze medal in 25.43.

Malaysian Games champion, Jackie Wong outclessed the entire boy’s hammer throw. He posted an outstanding distance of 68.84, some 15 metres ahead of silver medal winner, Boonkong Sanepoot of Thailand (52.96) and more than 30 metres ahead of the bronze medalist Panyawut Bumroong of Thailand (38.18).

Thailand lead the medal tally after three days of competition with a haul of 10-11-13, followed by Malaysia (9-11-3) and Vietnam (7-3-6).

Usain Bolt Cruises 9.84 to Beat Asafa Powell, David Oliver U.S Record 12.89 110mh at Paris Diamond League Meeting

Three-times Olympic and world champion Usain Bolt posted his second fastest time this year in blue riband event on the super-fast track at the Stade de France during the IAAF Paris Diamond League meeting on Friday (July 16).

Bolt clocked 9.84 to win the the race ahead of fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell who recorded a not bad 9.91. Bolt's training partner, Yohan Blake timed 9.95, completed the podium winning for Jamaica.

Shared the fastest time as at now, Bolt and Powell met for the first time this season but Bolt is now unbeaten for 14 consecutive finals of 100m.

Meanwhile,  David Oliver posted a new American record in the 110mh by clocking 12.89, eclipsed Dominique Arnold's record by one hundredth of a second as well as the third fastest time of all time, behind Dayron Robles (12.87 WR) and Liu Xiang (12.88).

Under perfect conditions, Oliver enjoyed a strong start and pulled away, beating fellow Americans Ryan Wilson, who finished second in 13.12, and Ronnie Ashe, who was third in 13.21.

ASEAN SCHOOL GAMES 2010: Malaysia Wins 4x100m relay, Amir Fakhri 47.90, Ajmal Aiman 14.12.

A huge numbers of gold harvested on the second day of the 2nd ASEAN School Games by the Malaysian contingent.

Malaysian quartet of Schzuan Rosli (PB 10.78), Amir Fakhri (PB 21.64), Hisyam Alias (PB 10.79) and Ambrose Jilom (PB 10.71) wins the boy’s 4x100m by clocking 41.35, ends the Thailand’s long dominion and could only satisfied for silver in 41.44. Indonesia finished third with a time of 42.26.

Malaysian Games champion, Amir Fakhri excels the half-mile event by recording a new personal best time of 47.90s for gold. He also lowered the old meet record by a big 0.8 second. Silver and bronze went to Thais Arnon Jaiaree (47.99) and Nitipol Thongpoon (48.16)

Ajmal Aiman posted a promising run to win the boy’s 110mh. Ajmal clocked a new meet record of 14.12, beating Thailand’s Nichanon Pongpimai (14.25) and Singapore’s Toe Renjie Sean (14.97).

In the girl’s long jump, Norshahidatun recorded a new meet record 5.86m to win gold medal. Vietnam’s Luu Tie Heap leapt 5.64m for silver while her teammate Nguyen Thi Tuoi bronze in 5.59.

Malaysian Games champion, Nauraj Singh cleared 2.13 in the boy’s high jump to win gold, well 18cm above of the old meet record. Teammate Navin Raj took a surprise silver (2.06), ahead of Vietnam’s Tran Thanh Binh (2.02).

11 gold medals were offered from the second day. Five gold medals went to Malaysia, only two won by Vietnam, and one for Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand respectively. Full results are available on my next report.
