Khairul Hafiz Jantan 10.50s Commonwealth Games
>> April 08, 2018
With a lifetime best of 10.18s, and seasonal best of 10.34s, Khairul Hafiz Jantan would not have any problem to make into the semifinal of the men's 100m.
However, the SEA Games champion did not qualify for semifinal after being eliminated in the preliminary round. He ranked 4th out of 8 in his heat 9 with a time of 10.50s (-0.1). He placed 27th out of 67 participants.
It appears that he was disturbed by the previous technical warning, and unable to execute the first steps as he normally he did. Furthermore, it seemed like he was “given up” in the last 15m. "I could not focus," was his immediate response.
In the 2017 SEA Games, he grabbed gold medal in the 100m (10.38s). Prior to that, he was a huge favorite to win the Asian championship after clocking the best time in his semifinal race (10.24s), but he later disqualified in the finals from a technical mistake, which indicated he did a false start.
