Jamras Rittidet 13.83, Rayzam Shah 13.87 110MH Asian GP 2nd Leg, Kanchanaburi 2012

>> May 12, 2012

Fast times produced in the men's 110m hurdles at the 2nd leg of Asian Athletics Grand Prix 2012 at Kanchanaburi province yesterday (11 May 2012). Fan Jiang of China was at his best to beat Kuwait's Almandeel Abdul Aziz (winner of the 1st leg in Bangkok) with 13.54s and bagged the gold. Abdul Aziz who produced 13.58s in the first leg only manage to finish in 13.69s.

But the point of talking among SEA fans and athletes was the current fastest hurdlers in Southeast Asia, Jamras Rittidet and Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian. Rittidet, the reigning SEA Games champion held off the challenge of his Malaysian rival to steal the bronze in a season best time of 13.83s, with 13.87s for Rayzam.

In the previous race (1st leg) Rittidet was ahead of Rayzam with nearly the same margin of time. But Rayzam had a season best (and PB) 13.81s clocked at Melbourne last month, which is better than Rittidet's performances here. Now there's the final leg scheduled on the 14th of May, which is going to be more exciting and faster times will be seen.

Meanwhile, Chinese athlete continue to dominate the sprint hurdles when Sun Yawei took the gold medal in the women's event in 13.22s. But the victory was not that easy as Indonesia's Dedeh Erawati was just two hundredths of a second trailing behind her (13.24s).

Singapore 39.58 4x100m NR at Asian GP 2012

Despite of finishing in fifth position in the men's 4x100m yesterday at the 2nd leg of Asian GP in Kanchanaburi (11 May 2012),  Singaporean national team has bettered the national record 39.82s set in 2009 SEA Games with a new mark of 39.58s.

Interestingly, the team with line-up of ...
Calvin Kang Li Loong (Pb 10.53, Sb 10.91 & 10.70w/2011),
Gary Yeo Foo Ee (Pb 10.62/10.46w, Sb 10.74/10.60w),
Lee Cheng Wei (Pb 10.61, Sb 10.78),
Muhd Amiruddin Jamal (Pb 10.53, Sb 10.69/2011),
...has once again, beaten the two prominent teams in Southeast Asia, Indonesia (40.23s 6th) and Thailand (40.25s 7th) after they did it in the 1st leg three days ago.

Note: in 2011 SEA Games, the team only lost the gold to Indonesia in the photo-finish when both teams finished in the same time in 39.91s.

In the first leg in Bangkok, the team (same sprinters) was registering 39.83s, only one hundredths of a second slower than the previous national record.

China won the race in 38.65s, Hong Kong finished in 2nd in 38.71, and followed by Chinese Taipei (39.19s) and South Korea (39.58s).

Third leg, the final leg of 2012 Asian GP will be held in Chonburi on May 14, 2012.

Jirapong Meenapra Clocks 10.61 100m, Ng Chin Hui 47.92 400m - 7th SEA Youth Singapore 2012

>> April 29, 2012

Thais sprinter Jirapong Meenapra claimed gold medal in the men's 100m during the 7th Southeast Asian Youth Athletics Championships 2012 in Singapore after clocking a season best time of 10.61s (0.0).

The 19-year-old whose personal best is 10.45s competed in U-21 (new / additional category in SEA Youth) has beaten Indonesia's Sapwaturrahman (10.72s) and another Thais Kritsada Namsuwan (10.74s) in silver and bronze medal positions respectively.

Zaidatul Husna Zulkifli,19, made a success for Malaysia after winning the women's 100m in a time of 12.14s (-0.4). Silver and Bronze medals went to Thais Chorlanda Kirdbut (12.31s) and Supawan Thipat (12.44s).

There's an exciting moment in the men's 400m. Singapore's Ng Chin Hui stopped the clock at 47.92s to win gold, but it was only 0.02s ahead of Thailand's Nitipol Thongpoon (47.94s) in silver position. More interestingly both times are inside the standard (47.95s) of the IAAF World Junior Championships, which will be held in Barcelona on 10-15 July 2012.

Highlights in Day 1, April 28, 2012 (for Youth / 17 Years and Under);

Jarurong Chimruang (Thailand), 16,  wins the boys 400m in 49.22s.

Malaysia's Saranraj s/o Sivamani lowered a meet record in 2000m steeplechase in 6:09.26s and won the gold medal. Quite near to him was Vietnam's Nguyen Thanh Bao in silver position but also finished inside the record mark with 6:15.25s.

Malaysia's Mohd Azly Ghazaly registered the highest bar in his life in the high jump after clearing 2.13m and won the gold medal.

Muhammad Shamsuddin (Malaysia) won the discus throw in a new meet record of 51.95m.

Quac Thi Lan (Vietnam) produced the fastest time of 400m in Southeast Asia (women / season leader) after setting 53.76s, thus qualified for World Juniors. She beats teammate Nguyen Tho Oanh in second place (55.03s).

Nguyen Thi Oanh (Vietnam) also surpassed the World Junior standard in the girls 400m hurdles with 60.25s.

16-Year-old Shahidatun Nadia Mohd Zuki (Malaysia) soars to 6.03m leap (+1.6) in the girls  long jump and retained her gold medal from 2011.

In the girls hammer, Panwat Kimsrang (Thailand) outclassed the rest of the field when she throw the iron ball at a distance of 55.50m, beating the silver medalist by 10 metres!, but the mark was short a few centimetres to World Junior standard (56.00m).

Update: Highlights in Day 2, April 29, 2012
Thailand's Kacha Sawangyen won youth 200m in 22.02s, it was achieved after compatriot Sowan Ruttanapon took the men's U21 in 21.64s.

Thailand's Phiraphon Chitpho wins youth hammer throw (5kg) in a new meet record of 56.38m.

Narta Sugara of Indonesia threw 15.63m in youth shot put (5kg) and won the gold medal.

Zaidatul Husna Zulkifli has completed a double in sprints, winning the women's 200m for U21 in a personal best time of 24.59s.

Thailand team swept all the relays except (4x100m girls youth ).

Singapore has been crowned as the overall champion after totaling 305 points / overall score. Thailand in second place with 228, followed by Indonesia (177), Vietnam (170), Malaysia (161), Philippines (11), Laos (8), Myanmar (5) and Brunei (0).
