Woo Chan Yew Runs the Fastest Marathon Time 2:25:07 at Duluth USA

>> June 17, 2012

USA-based runner Woo Chan Yew set the fastest time ever recorded by a Malaysian over the distance of 42,195m when he stopped the clock at 2:25:07s at the 2012 Grandma's Marathon at Duluth, Minnesota, the United States, today (17 June 2012). He finished in 19th position out of 3424 participants.

This performance establish him as the second fastest marathoner in Southeast Asia this year, behind Cambodian Hem Bunnting 2:23:29s. At half-marathon point he sets 1:11:49s - also second fastest at Southeast Asia in 2012, following a fast 10km time of 34:12s.

The 31-year-old Kuala Lumpur born who took part at 2007 SEA Games surpasses not only the SEA Games standards (for 2013 SEAG at Myanmar) but his time is apparently faster than the winner of 2011 SEA Games (2:27:45).

He is now gunning for the a place of the Olympic Games, which means he have to run under 2:18:00s before the deadline on 8th July 2012. The Games of XXX Olympiad will be commenced in 27th of July.

For a record, Woo Chan Yew has lowered Baskaran Kuppusamy's national record 2:29:27 to 2:28:36s at Montreal Marathon in September 2010. Having surpassed the record earlier with 2:26:28s at the 2009 St George Marathon but the drop in elevation of St Georges does not allow the record setting to be ratified.
